Give Your Body Extra Love + Benefits of Chlorophyll

Spring is in full bloom and flowering into a beautiful month of pilates. Welcome to the April Powerhouse Pilates newsletter, featuring the latest studio news, great health tips and more.

Why to Eat More Chlorophyll

What is it that makes leafy greens so incredibly nourishing for your body? Part of it is due to the chlorophyll they contain. Chlorophyll is a green pigment that’s crucial in the process of transforming the sun’s light into energy in plants. Turns out it has great benefits for humans, too!

Chlorophyll-rich foods extend beyond leafy greens like kale and spinach. Other foods rich in this powerful pigment include fresh herbs, matcha green tea, wheatgrass, seaweed, spirulina, pistachios and green vegetables and fruits such as peas, grapes and asparagus. Here are some of chlorophyll’s major benefits that help improve our bodies’ functions.

  • Fights Cancer: Chlorophyll protects against many carcinogens in the air and restricts the absorption of harmful toxins in the body. It’s also extremely high in antioxidants and has been shown to decrease the risk of certain cancers.
  • Detoxifies the Body: An increase in oxygen and healthy blood flow encourages toxic chemicals and heavy metals to naturally flush out of the body. This helps detox and purify the liver.
  • Boosts Immunity: Chlorophyll prevents the growth of bacteria and increases the production of white blood cells. It encourages the body’s ability to fight diseases and has been proven to speed up healing.
  • Eliminates Odors: Bad breath and Candida albicans (an infection often responsible for bad breath) are no match against chlorophyll. It’s an effective remedy in eliminating these odors and improving overall digestion.
